To make the cake batter, throw in an incredibly flawed and rule-breaking girl, and then mix it in with a strong sibling dynamic slowly then chuck it in the oven and bake it in a sci-fi backdrop. Serve the cake with a heavy dollop of bad romance and a sprinkle of headache ensuing info-dumps, and there you have it: Dissonance. Delancey Sullivan is a Walker. It’s not that she’s special and skilled enough to become one, but because this ability runs in […]

And this, my friends, is why I give authors second chances. I am so glad that I decided to give Becca Fitzpatrick’s work another go despite having abhorred her Hush, Hush series. I wouldn’t go as far to say that Black Ice wasn’t problematic, but despite it’s issues it was a thrilling and relatively fast-paced read. Black Ice is a mystery thriller with (surprisingly) no paranormal aspects at all. I originally believed that this was of the paranormal genre (because silly Mel didn’t bother to carefully read the […]

Only read the first and last paragraphs of this review if you haven’t read Fire with Fire Burn for Burn and Fire with Fire are some of the best high school revenge stories I’ve ever read. Han and Vivian manage to create drama that doesn’t feel aimless or overly melodramatic and characters with incredible depth and growth. It’s safe to say that yes, I loved this series up until this very last instalment which has pretty much tainted my feelings towards the entire series. Words […]

Belzhar is a very difficult book for me to review. I’ve been sitting here in front of my laptop for more than half an hour just fuming and raging inside because of this book. Because I cannot talk about the cons just yet, let me just tell you guys what this book is about. This book is about Jam. Jam’s full name is Jamaica; and yep, her parents named her after the place where she was conceived. As amusing as that is, Belzhar is not an […]

I’ll be frank, I was not impressed by Brenna Yovanoff’s latest release, Fiendish. The author definitely has some writing talent–because her writing–particularly the descriptions–were gorgeous, but they did not make up for the cons. Three Reasons Why Fiendish Didn’t Work For Me 1. The storyline bored me to death. Honestly, watching a game of golf would be more interesting than this. At the start of the book, I was really intrigued and curious as to why Clementine was trapped in a cellar for […]

When the early reviews of Evertrue started to roll in, I was rather appalled to see so many disappointed reviews. But now, I can totally see why. Everneath and Everbound were some of my favourite novels ever–but I cannot say the same for the last instalment, Evertrue. Here were my main issues in order from most infuriating to least: 1. Jack.  A sad fact, but true. I was Team Jack ALLL the way till about 50 pages into this book.  What changed? This happened: […]

Burn For Burn was fun. Fire With Fire was another story. Much more complex with depth and more of a realistic backbone, the sequel to Burn For Burn surprised me entirely. If you were not the greatest fan of Burn For Burn, I believe that this one is still worth trying because it was a huge improvement. Sweet revenge turns sour… Lillia, Kat and Mary were close to getting caught for drugging Reeve at Homecoming. So close. When Mary’s grudge against Reeve […]

Not being a great fan of Beautiful Creatures, I went into Unbreakable wearily and finished, rather pleased with the end result. Kennedy Waters has met a ghost and her mother has recently died. And just when things are about to move along, she meets twin brothers, Jared and Lukas Lockheart. Soon, Kennedy finds out that her mother was part of a secret group called the Legion to fight a demon that dared to harm the world; however the world is no longer […]
