Having read The Great Gatsby  and adoring the beautiful novel, I was admittedly skeptical for a modern take on the classic tale- especially it being in the young adult genre. I was afraid that this novel would pale in comparison, quite frankly. It certainly wouldn’t include the atmospheric and poignant descriptions of the roaring twenties and the inevitable impossibility and resulting failure from trying to achieve the American Dream. However, I think that Even in Paradise stands on its own from The Great Gatsby and […]

Snow Like Ashes immediately caught my attention with its gorgeous cover. I found the insides of Snow Like Ashes  just as beautiful as the outside. The descriptions of the kingdoms in Snow Like Ashes  easily created pictures of mind. By the end of the story I had a pretty clear picture of the worlds described in the story, along with the complex magic interwoven with the kingdoms. I can’t wait to see more of the worlds Sara has created in future installments. However […]

I thought I was prepared. I’d seen many friends pick this up and then lay it down after 15 pages or so, saying this just really wasn’t for them. But I’ve been the odd one out before, so maybe this could end up working for me! So I finally started my own copy of Anatomy of a Misfit and… well. Let’s say my friends weren’t wrong. I was so happy to be able to get a ARC of this, as it’s already released in Australia and I’ve heard great things.  I also love the Devil Wears Prada a whole bunch, so the comparison in the summary had me intrigued. I think this is one of the few circumstances where the comparison does this book justice.  I was overjoyed to find myself whipping through the pages of The Intern. I would certainly put it in a compulsive reading category. The thing I […]

I found myself completely enamoured with this retelling and I can only hope that this review will do my love for this book justice. Dorothy Must Die  takes the original tale of Oz and spins it on its head. It adds in unique features that allows you to differentiate it from the original and Danielle definitely managed to make this story her own. However, Dorothy Must Die is still faithful to the original as it retains core themes and values, the ‘definitely not in […]

Major disappointment. Those are the words I’d use to sum up my feelings for Royally Lost. I picked it up looking for a fun and fluffy read. Unfortunately, it just ended up making me angry. Honestly, I wasn’t even looking for something extremely good and meaningful, just a fun, summer read. It seems that that was too much to ask, though. Oh yeah, there will be mild spoilers in this review, but you know, who cares? Let’s start with the biggest problem I […]
