Horror is a genre within YA that I personally believe brims with unexplored possibility. As a bit of a horror buff myself, I do love the genre itself but even more so the impact it can have on the reader. From personal experience I’ve felt the aftereffects of well done horror far past the credits of a movie or the closing words of a novel. I suppose my personal definition of a successful horror then would be if it elicited undeniable long-lasting fear. I […]

I’ll be frank, I was not impressed by Brenna Yovanoff’s latest release, Fiendish. The author definitely has some writing talent–because her writing–particularly the descriptions–were gorgeous, but they did not make up for the cons. Three Reasons Why Fiendish Didn’t Work For Me 1. The storyline bored me to death. Honestly, watching a game of golf would be more interesting than this. At the start of the book, I was really intrigued and curious as to why Clementine was trapped in a cellar for […]

YA Midnight Reads

We are creeping up on Halloween now, and today the lovely Lexa Cain was able to stop by on the blog with a guest post. I read her book earlier this year and reviewed it on the blog, and really liked it, it’s got some horror elements to it, and is set in Egypt! How awesome is that? I definitely recommend you all go and grab an ecopy on Amazon right now–it’s on a special price of 99cents until the 31st of […]

YA Midnight Reads

An Interview with Rin Chupeco I’m so happy to have Rin Chupeco, author of The Girl from the Well on the blog to answer a few questions 😀 You all should go check the book out, I also reviewed the book here. Welcome Rin! If your book had a soundtrack, what would be one of the songs on the playlist? I actually maintain a playlist here but Imagine Dragons songs (“Demons” and “My Fault”) make up a good part of that – […]

After finishing this book at around 2am last night, I spent the next hour contemplating on whether I should get out of bed and walk across the hallway to go to the bathroom. Why did I spend an hour? Because this book left me totally freaked out about my own house. Yep, that’s right. This book is scared the crap out of me. And no jokes, I nearly pissed my pajama pants because I didn’t have the guts to get out of […]

When Lexa Cain approached me for a review of her novel last year, I was a little unsure about how I’d feel about it. I mean, I am not a fan of horror, though I will read it every now and again. But now, I truly regret not making time for reading this earlier–I blame homework. Anyway, to get to the point, Soul Cutter was pretty darn awesome. There are a few flaws that I believe that can be easily fixed but […]

I guess this just goes to show how much of a wimp I am. I nearly ran to my parent’s room because I could hear tiny creaking noises in the floorboard after reading a clearly not so scary scene for everyone else. I. Scare. Easily. Tim thinks it’s a huge stroke of luck when he finds a not only dirt cheap, but also huge expensive house up for sale. However here’s the catch, he has to live with the owner of the […]
