Latest Happenings

Things I’ve done lately: procrastinating.

You could say that I’ve had a very non-productive week. That, and the fact that all I want to do is stare at the new blog design because I still cannot get over how much I love it. Speaking of which, when I did my first few commenting rounds since forever the other day, I found that so many blogs got new designs as well! IT’S TRULY AWESOME AND I LOVE THEM ALL. *revamp buddy fist pumps all around*

Aaaanyway, in terms of school life, the stress is real guys, and I swear it’s going to eat me alive. ALIVE, I TELL YOU. You’ll know where to find me if you don’t hear back from me in a week. *eye twitch*

ALSO: HOW THE HECK IS IT MAY ALREADY? I seriously feel like it’s only February or something. Nope, not accepting this. Nope nope NOPE.

I’ve also gotten myself a Netflix account and oh my gosh WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! I have met my true love, I’m telling you. The Aussie Netflix isn’t as great as the U.S. one, but hey, we’re getting there! (Slowly, might I add.) I just finished binge-watching Orphan Black the other day and I’m now up to date. If you watch it too, do tell me so we can discuss all the things! I’m now starting Suits because I have a few good friends at school who are fans of the show. Honestly, I’m not all that invested in it at the moment because there doesn’t seem to be any complex plot lines going on (disclaimer: I’m only at Season 1, Episode 2), so we’ll see.

Moving onto sadder news, I’ve had a really hard time getting back into reading. And, I’ve had this issue for the past 2 months. I do think I’m getting better, especially after I finished We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach which was truly a delightful lil’ contemporary novel (mini review to come this week), so hopefully my motivation to read only increases from here on! *fingers crossed*

Bookish News

Cassie Clare’s The Mortal Instruments is well underway with it’s TV show adaptation, Shadowhunters! So far, Simon (Alberto Rosende), Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) have been casted.

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 4.16.43 pm

In other news, The Little Prince International Trailer was released, and it is absolutely glorious and beautiful.

Newest Book Arrivals

Dangerous Deception: I have no intention of reading this one because I DNFed Dangerous Creatures. This is the second book to the spin of series of Beautiful Creatures.

Hacked: I’ve never heard of this one before, but a character with ADHD? I’m curious…

I’ll Be There: So I believe that this is book was republished, as according to Goodreads, the first edition was released in 2012. I’ve read a lot of 5 star reviews for this one, so I am very eager to read this! Always love a good contemporary.

The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly: Larissa read and enjoyed this one so I decided to request it myself – a Grimm retelling? HECK YEAHS.

In Darkness: I read There Will Be Lies by Nick Lake which turned out to be a really weird, weird novel, but when I saw this on Booktopia for only $6, I had to grab it!

The Catalyst: I’ve never heard of this one before, but it sure looks intimidating with it’s huge size.

Everything, Everything: AHHHHHH I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS BOOK! I’ve already seen glowing things for this one, and I am just dying to pick it up. (But alas, there are other review copies to read first.)

Hello, I Love You: This one looks like a hella cute contemporary. I’m no k-pop fan, let alone listen to k-pop so hopefully that doesn’t taint my enjoyment.

Every Last Word: I got an email from Disney asking me about this one and I basically just downloaded it without the blink of an eye. THE COVER IS SO CUTE AND SIMPLISTIC. Oh… and I obviously downloaded this because of other reasons like the synopsis and stuff too, riiiight?

~Thank you Disney Hyperion, St. Martin’s Press, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins Australia, Hachette Australia, Scholastic Australia and Penguin Australia!~

Current Giveaways

And that’s it for this week! How’ve you all been? School/work keeping you busy as well? Do you like the idea of this being a bi-monthly feature?

  1. I’m actually putting the blog on hiatus for the rest of the month because I foresee a very busy month of May with getting the keys of my new apartment and all the work that it will ensue with cleaning and painting and packing and moving and unpacking and assembling furniture… And work and baking for a friend’s wedding and said wedding and packing and BEA… I might go insane!!

And The Little Prince! Oh dear, I’m so gonna see that movie and cry my eyes out so much as I do all the time with the book! *sniffles*

Ooh, that is pretty smart thinking! And BEA?! THAT IS SO AWESOME. HAVE LOTS OF FUN, GIRL. *wishes I go could go too* And that cleaning and painting sounds like a lot of work! Hopefully you can get it done smoothly. 🙂

  2. Ah, The Little Prince trailer looks awesome! Thanks for sharing it, I would have missed it otherwise.

  3. Damn, Mel, are we like long-lost sisters or something?! Because I swear my life is like yours… full of procrastination and too little reading for my liking. The Netflix thing would be true too, except that we don’t have Netflix in our country, booooo. (So it’s anime for me, bahahaha.) I’m sorry to hear that school’s still being as stressful as usual, and I almost said that summer holidays are coming up, when I remembered that you’re in Australia. D:

LET’S TALK TV SHOWS, THOUGH. How is Orphan Black?? I’ve seen so many people raving about it, but for some reason it just never occurred to me to start watching it! Hopefully I’ll get to it eventually, because it does look really interesting. 😀

And omg, that beautiful book haul. I’ve been a good girl and haven’t gone onto EW for ages, but now that I know Patrick Ness’ The Rest of Us Live Here is up for grabs, along with Everything, Everything AND I CAN FEEL MY SELF-CONTROL SLIPPING AWAAAAAAY. Must. resist. the. temptation!!!

Happy May, hon! (I’m still in shock that pretty much half a year has gone by already. When the hell did that happen? O_O)

I bet we totally are! Man, no Netflix? You guys are missing out on all the fun! But on the other hand, it totally eats away my time, heh.

Orphan Black is really good! A little boring at times but Season 1 was spectacular. Season 2 was pretty good too, but S1 tops the cake.

Yes, I heard about the Ness book as well! I am trying to resist it though, hah .

  4. I’m loving the casting for TMI, much better than the movie version I must say. The movie was horrendous, and Jamie was just not Jace enough.

Eep, I really hope you’re not going to die from school, what a horrid way to go haha. I’ve stayed away from getting Netflix for now because I’m so busy – I know once I get it I’m never going to stop watching and my book pile is never going to go down. Eep! Suits is amazing btw, although season 4 kind of goes downhill…

Yes, I quite like the new cast as well! Not so sure about Simon, but yaaaas Isabelle is perf. Netflix only has 2 seasons available (of Suits) so I probably won’t get to S4 any time soon, but I’ll defs keep that in mind!

I’m so curious about Hello I Love You. Weary that it’ll be a horrible attempt at cultural appropriation. But hey, like I used to love kpop 7/8 years ago and this kinda hits home for me (LOL WTF I’m making this sound so dramatic hahaha)

  7. Jasprit says:

Melanie, your new blog design is so pretty! If it was mine I so would be staring at it all day too! I recently just got Netflix too and honestly all I want to do it watch the shows all day, but work is always getting in the way. I did start Suits a few weeks back, but was only able to get to episode 7, season 1 but I am really liking it, I just need to make more time for it. I hope you’re able to get back to reading again soon 🙂

  8. Yes! I totally can’t get over your new design, either. 🙂 And argh, school is such a pain, isn’t it? :/ Plus I totally get what you mean–it is NOT May, no matter what the calendar says! *shakes fist at calendar*

Dangerous Creatures was horrid. I’m still probably going to read Dangerous Deception though. And yay for Minnow Bly–I’ve been seeing much love for it. 🙂

Anyway, EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING is fantastic! I hope you’ll enjoy.

Yes, I get that feeling of sudden laziness ALL THE TIME. Hopefully we both get back into the swing of things! And yessss so excited about Everything, Everything! Looks amazing.

  11. Johanna Richards says:

Yes to Netflix!! I’m just so addicted to it.
Huh, I had no idea that TMI was being turned into a TV show. It better be better than the movie because that was seriously horrific.
I hope you get back into reading, girl! Slumps are the woorst.

  12. OMG THAT LITTLE PRINCE TRAILER. It looks so gorgeous and magical. I. want. (I hadn’t even heard of it before…heh). I have The Catalyst too and, um, yeah it’s huge. 0_0 I haven’t quite got up the courage to try it yet. *whispers* Hacked was awful. 1-star for me. Eghhhhh. I’m kind of dubious about the CoB cast too. I mean I can definitely see Isabelle! She’s perfect! But Jace isn’t blonde (I assume they’ll dye, but still) and I cannot see Simon like that AT ALL. He’s supposed to be a skinny weedy geek boy! WHAT IS THIS. Ah, well. I can’t wait to see who Clary is. xD And Alec! AND MAGNUS.

Oh dear, 1 star? Not sure I want to touch this now. O.O

Yes, I love the casting for Isabelle too! I don’t mind Jace, but it really depends on his acting because he was also in VA and well, their personalities are pretty different so let’s see if he can pull it off. Yeah, I’m so-so about Simon. We shall see! OMG YEAH, I WONDER WHO MAGNUS IS GONNA BE.

  13. I hope you can get back into the swing of reading! And yeah, I can’t believe it’s May either. I’m excited though. My birthday is at the end of the month and I’ll be in NYC for it and going to BEA so yay for fun things happening! Plus, I have one more day of school stuff and then a whole summer of classes off!

  14. Romi says:

Exciting reads here, Melanie! I’m excited to see what you think about Every Thing Every Thing, because I really like the sound of it, and The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly sounds pretty fantastic!
Doesn’t The Little Prince trailer look superb?! I watched it last week and wasn’t sure what I thought, but then it showed the way they animated the Prince and those scenes, and it’s just so beautiful, and I think the story is going to be… incredible touching. And I hadn’t even known there was a new movie coming out! So definitely a happy surprise, in the end. Here’s hoping the film lives up to it’s trailer! Xx

  15. Diamond says:

I can just stare at your new design too…so pretty! lol. Glad you got Netflix! I can’t believe you didn’t have it, I would be …very incomplete without my Netflix account. I get sad when they take stuff off but then ridiculously happy every week when they add stuff. 🙂 I watched the new episode of Penny Dreadful Season 2..(it’s SO good) and I am trying to get out of my reading funk too…I finished a bunch of graphic novels but am trying to decide what book to start. Maybe young elites or something similarly dark? Or perhaps something from one of the many series I need to finish lol.
I think bi-monthly features are great and I don’t mind at all! I do mine monthly..it is harder getting all the info together sometimes but I think its worth it because its more detailed and that extra time I can spend reading! Have a great week ladies! <33

Haha well Netflix was only introduced to Australia in late March 😛 Ooh if you read Young Elites, do tell me how it is! I really wanna try that one myself. Glad that you like the idea of making this bi-monthly!

  16. Ahhh Minnow Bly and Everything, Everything are books I NEED. Actually, I literally need Minnow Bly, because I am scheduled to do a review for it for a blog tour in like, less than a month, and I don’t have it! I digress. Sorry about your reading slump! But, I am quite happy that you enjoyed We All Looked Up! I cannot wait to read it, but somehow it keeps getting pushed back for some weird priority or another.

And I agree- SO many new lovely designs! I should have mine soon I hope, I cannot wait for it- yours is so very lovely, and I am getting a bit antsy with anticipation!

I need Netflix too, I do not have it- BUT Fuller House is going to be on Netflix, so I will be too 😉 Good luck with all the stress- just think, the end of the year will be here soon! Enjoy the lovely new books too 🙂

  17. NEW BOOKS SO EXCITING <3 I can't believe it's May as well 🙁 It's already half of the year, and I seriously don't want to yet because I don't want the year to end. It's going too fast. IT SHOULD SLOW DOWN D: D: Anyway, hurray for Netflix. I've never tried it before, though… Oh and I can't believe they're making TMI a tv series. (Ha ha.) I have to confess that it IS quite a slow show, and there’s a lot of legal stuff that goes through one ear and out another, but I love it. Hope it gets better for you! And ohh, Minnow Bly!
