Please let me take a moment to congratulate myself for predicting that I would fall into a reviewing and reading slump around this time of the year. *pats self on back* So, earlier on this year, because I am so fabulously great at fortune-telling, I decided to dig a huge gap in the Google Calendar we Midnightians use to organise and schedule posts for the blog for a hiatus in the worry that I’d probably die of reviewing and reading crappy books. And here I am, feeling rather drained of words and totally sick of crappy books.

Also, please let me take a moment to start sobbing because school has started again. *sobs*

Back on topic, I am taking a blogging hiatus for a month and will return on the 13th of August with a review of Messenger of Fear by Michael Grant. I am leaving this blog in Celine and Larissa’s totally capable hands, so the blog will still be up and active. I’ll be using this hiatus to read some books that I have been dying to read, such as the ones below. (I might review a few books for Finding Bliss in Books if I have a lot to say about a specific book.)

I am very excited to dig into these pretty books. Obviously, I won’t have the time to get to all of them, but I am hoping to read a good chunk of these. High on my TBR is definitely Shadow and Bone, I have been delaying that series for too long, and now that book 3 is out, it seems appropriate for a binge read. I just realised that the books I want to read most are the first row and last row. *drools looking at the covers*

I am thinking of making a TBR jar with these titles. I have always wanted to make one but never had the opportunity to because I’ve always been tight with review copy priorities. So yes, EXCITEMENT!

And another note, Larissa and I are about to start read-a-longing Deadly Little Sins by Kara Taylor, so that’s another book I’ll be reading during my hiatus.

I’ll still be active on Twitter and Goodreads (a bit on Finding Bliss in Books) but I am just taking a step down from blog related things for the coming 4 weeks. I will be blog commenting though (hopefully)! I am so behind on that -.-

Bye for now, bookish nerds! <33

Have you read any of these? Which ones do you guys think I should pick up first?

OKAY FINE. Since me being sad won’t change anything.

Mel, you know we’re going to miss you, but have fun during your hiatus 😀 Here’s to hoping you’ll read some awesome books (*cough* Days of Blood and Starlight *coughcough* Love Letters to the Dead *cough*). Yes, I will shamelessly push some of these books on you 😀 Though the ones I’ve read from that list are mostly awesome, so I guess I’ll be pushing everything on you? Anyway, have fun and good luck surviving school, hun <33

  3. I’ve just read My life Next Door, nice read, not mind blowing beautiful all the time, but nice none the less, I also have Searching for Sky to read, damn I’m behind on ARC’s, it sucks! Anyhow, I hope you enjoy having more time to yourself, and while we’ll miss you, you’re right that the girls can keep YMR up and running and not break it on you 😉

But I totally understand and I love Celine and Larissa too so hopefully I’ll be okay for the next few weeks. I hope you enjoy your hiatus though! You totally deserve one. After all the hard work that you’ve done and all the stressful TV show watching. 😉 Kidding kidding! This is a perfect time to take a hiatus!

LOL! The stressful TV watching definitely requires a blog hiatus 😛 I think I’m gonna be picking S&B after reading The Distance Between Us >.<

I think TBR jars are the new cool thing! I made mine a couple days ago but haven’t had time to use it because of all the books I need to be reading/reviewing. Gahh I am almost done catching up though and then I can finally slow down and take deep breaths instead of freaking out.

I AM GOING TO MISS YOU THOUGH, MEL! And I will be counting down the days until you’re back! SO BE BACK SOON. A month…. I’ll survive. Or try to.

I hope you enjoy your little break Melanie, it feels like ages since I reviewed a book, so I totally understand the horrible situation that you fund yourself in. But look at all those amazing books that you can read! I can’t wait to see how you get on with A Mad, Wicked Folly, Love Letters to the Dead and Everything Leads to You, happy reading!

You should definitely read The Sky is Everywhere (feels, Melanie. FEELS), The Maze Runner (well, it’s actually one of those books you’ll either love or hate), Lola and the Boy Next Door (CRICKET BELL!) and A Mad, Wicked Folly (so cute)!

    Happy reading, girl!

*sniffles* but you’ll still be on twitter during your hiatus won’t you? I mean, you’re not disappearing completely and I’ll be forced to hunt you down and probably hide in your bushes until there’s an appropriate time to grab you and possibly duct tape your hands and ankles so you can’t get away. See, you’ve driven me to contemplate criminalisation. Please Mel, don’t make me just another statistic.

Yeah, that was probably a bit much wasn’t it.

Yes, I’ll definitely be on Twitter! I’d perish if I didn’t go on twitter, Kels! Oh no, not at all! Not too much at all, I’m not creeped out or looking out my window to see if there’s anything strange going on nope nope.

Aw you’re not just a statistic! You’re like the awesomest lady I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet 🙂 <33

  11. NOOOOO! Don’t leave me! 🙁 I will miss you. But I am happy you are getting the break you need. So far, I have not fallen into a reading slump…yet

  13. It’s always good to take a hiatus when you feel like you need it. With all the books we book bloggers read, sometimes we just need to a take a break and give ourselves some me time. I’ve heard wonderful things about Shadow & Bone and My Life Next Door, and I loved Days of Blood & Starlight. I recommend starting with those 🙂

Awww Mel <33 you deserve this break with all the hard work you've been doing. I do hope you get a start on those books! My Life Next Door, Golden, Lola and the Boy Next Door, The Distance Between Us are all wonderful reads.

    Celine and I shall try not to muck up the blog...too much [;

    • Melanie says:

Hehe I really wanna read Golden ASAP because I must pet the pretty cover 😛 If I come back and the blog is corrupted…I’ll know who to blame *looks suspiciously at you guys*

  18. I am truly in awe of your fortune-telling skills. Now if only you could predict when other bloggers might fall into reading/blogging slumps so we can plan ahead of time! 😉 In all seriousness though, I hope this hiatus goes well for you, because I know how it feels like to be so tired of reading and reviewing stuff. I’m getting sick of reading all these meh review books as well, but thankfully I haven’t gotten tired of blogging yet!

As for the books you listed down, I’ve only read three of them — the first two Grisha books and Golden by Jessi Kirby. I loved ALL of them, but Shadow and Bone more than the other two, obvs. Golden may seem like your typical contemporary book, but THE FEELS, MAN, THE FEEEEEELS. And of course you know how I feel about Leigh Bardugo, haha. I’m also dying to read My Life Next Door and Days of Blood and Starlight, so crossing my fingers that you’ll enjoy them both! If you ever write reviews for any of these, I’ll be sure to check them out.

Looking forward to your return in August, girl! Have fun and don’t let school dictate your life too much, ‘kay? <3

Anyhow, we’ll all miss you, but I hope you have a good time on your hiatus and get the relaxation and refreshing you need to get back into reviewing. 😀 As for your choices, I read Something Real this year and it was absolutely one of my favorite books of 2014 so far! The Grisha trilogy and the Maze Runner series are both absolutely wonderful, so I’m interested in hearing on what you think of them! Golden and Searching for Sky are beautifully written and definitely pull you in!

    Happy reading Mel! <3

  24. Awww, well at least you are getting a much deserved break. You should definitely read the Grisha trilogy first (I did the binge read of the trilogy in a day and a half), it’s such a good series. Haven’t read any of the others, except for Searching for Sky, which I cried in. Ohhh, Messenger of Fear is soooo good! I hope you love it as much as I did.

Oh gosh, I have read Love Letters to The Dead and I liked it well enough. I should actually have a review of it up on my blog tomorrow.

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to read the Shadow and Bone series. Similarly I’ve been wanting to read the Anna and The French Kiss intertwined “trilogy” I’ve heard so much about. I own the first two Stephanie Perkins books.

My Life Next Door and The Distance Between Us are also on my TBR list. The covers are gorgeous, especially the latter. 🙂 Everything Leads To You and The Maze Runner series is also on my TBR list. Unfortunately I don’t own any of these books.

A TBR jar would be a great idea for you since that’s a daunting list of books you’ve got.

Ah, it’s always hard when school starts back up. 🙁 Good luck though and have a good break.
