What’s been happening lately…

Heeey guys! I am back from camp! It actually was not that bad, made some friends and got to know everyone better. I am really excited about tomorrow because I’ll be rocking by at my old school to see my old friends! I miss them a lot πŸ™

Anyway, it was Valentine’s Day on Friday! How was it for all of you? I was on a bus on my way back home so you could say I celebrated Valentine’s Day with my wifi that I missed dearly for 4 days, haha.

Steph @ Chasm of Books and I are hosting a read-along for The Iron Fey Series!Β Most of us have finished book 2 and are going onto book 3. Never too late to join!

Just Finished Reading…

The Iron DaughterThis was one of two books I read this week (I know, only TWO BOOKS?) I’ll be honest, I don’t get the hype. AT ALL. I hear book 3 and 4 are better so fingers crossed!

Book of the Week:

BirdThis book came out quite recently for us AUS and UKians and I feel that it’s not getting enough notice! This one was definitely one of my favourites for 2014 and simply everyone who can needs to read it.

– Review of The Last Best Kiss by Claire LaZebnik (@ Finding Bliss in Books)

– Review of The Summer I Found You by Jolene Perry

  2. Oh, I agree! Bird should be EVERYWHERE. It’s just that brilliant. I couldn’t give it enough stars (sometimes 5 is totally not enough). I’m surprised it’s not getting pushed more…maybe because it’s MG? Bloggers seem to zone in on YA more. *shrugs* I really want to read The Iron Fey series. I should stalk the library for it…

I really ought to check out The Razorlands (that’s the series name, right? lol) series. It sounds so good and Jenny loves it and lots of other people do too. From your enthusiasm over finaly getting it I understand you’re a fan as well? πŸ˜‰ Heh. I hope you enjoy The Iron Queen. That was my favorite out of these books. I’m sorry you’re not feeling the love or hype right now. It can only go up from here, eh? πŸ™‚ Happy reading, Mel! πŸ™‚

I think it is! I wasn’t a huge fan of the first one but did enjoy it. My enthusiasm comes more from the fact that I’ve been waiting in line for this book for more than half a year lolz

  4. Jasprit says:

I’ve not heard of Bird before, I didn’t even realise that it was already out here, I will definitely have to see what it’s about, thank you for putting it on my radar Melanie. I hope you enjoy all your reads! πŸ™‚

How was your Valentine’s, Mel? πŸ˜‰ And too bad the Iron Fey books aren’t interesting you so far. I really enjoyed them! The fourth was a bit boring (I mean it was slow) but I still gave it 5 stars because of how much I loved Ash and how his character grew. I really hope you enjoy books 2 and 3! πŸ™‚

  8. Stephanie B says:

I just started The Iron Daughter last night. It’s holding onto the faster pace and more meaningful plot line so far, so I’m pleased. The Iron King felt a bit all over the place. I miss Puck. He would never have hurt Meghan like Ash did…. at the same time though, what did she expect? It’s not like Ash didn’t warn her. And he was only trying to keep her safe. *sigh* I’m actually a bit annoyed with her.

  9. I still need to read the Iron Fey books but I unfortunately don’t have much time ;_; hopefully next month I’ll be able to get to it. I can’t wait for you to read Wicked Little Secrets! I read the first book and totally loved it!

I’m completely feeling you at the moment, the read-a-long is letting me down at the moment too, but the only was is up, right? Here’s hoping.
I’ve been hearing of Bird, but not seen anything big at the moment, so I’ll keep an eye and ear open for that soon! Great catch up post πŸ™‚

Beside the fact that I’m dying to see Larissa’s review for Stolen Songbird I’m so glad that you’re back with us. I truly hope you’ll enjoy book 3 and 4 better, but maybe you should try with spin-off series. I think I’ll like it more. I need to read Outpost too. Great haul πŸ™‚

I wasn’t a fan of the Iron Fey series, I abandoned the first book around half way through. It’s just… Fairies… Couldn’t do it. I absolutely loved Bird as well and I’m surprised that no one is really hearing about it. Us Aussie YA bloggers seem to all love this book passionately, I really hope the rest of the world cotton’s on to how incredible it really is.

  15. Aww sorry to hear that The Iron Fey books aren’t working for you! I was rereading it a few months ago and I felt like it wasn’t as great as I first remembered, so I feel like it depends when you read it (like if you read it when it first comes out some of the clichΓ©s aren’t as obvious because they aren’t big clichΓ©s yet), but they definitely get better as they keep going because her writing gets better. Ugh I still need to read Bird, I’ve seen nothing but good reviews. Happy reading, Mellybean! <33

  16. Eileen has been telling me to read the Iron Fey books for like 2 years now. I won the boxed set last year but I haven’t read them yet. I was thinking of doing the audiobooks. The first one is one sale right now so here’s my chance. I’ve had bad luck with Fey books which is what is holding me back. Hope they get better for you!
Is there a better way to spend Valentine’s day than with your beloved wifi? Me thinks not πŸ™‚

I stopped reading the Kagawa Fey series after the first book. I enjoyed it, but just haven’t been motivated to get back into it. I’m really excited for her Talon series though! I adore books about dragons, and definitely think there should be more of them. πŸ˜› She’s a wonderful author, I think.

I’ve never heard of Bird but I’ll check it out!

  18. Aaah, Cracks in the Kingdom! I’ve heard it’s even better than the first novel, which I loved, so I am incredibly excited to tear into this one soon. I’m looking forward to your thought on it, Melanie! πŸ™‚
