discussing through midnight

This meme was created for YA Midnight Reads as a discussion post of all things bookish.

———

It’s a new year and time to chomp down on some more books! Today, I’ve decided to make a list of about 6 books that I really need to read (or should have read ages ago) this year. These are in no particular order.

tbd5

The Iron King: I have been meaning to try out this series for ages after reading Kagawa’s vampire series. I am hoping to get to this one in the near future.

Sanctum: I’ve been recommended this book gazillion times and have heard endless praise.

Anna and the French Kiss: There’s a lot of anticipation for the last book, may as well join the loop and see if I like it or not. Maybe not until a few months since I’ve had enough of contemporary as of the late.

tbd6
Legend: A lot of people were fangirling when the last book came out, I must meet this Day and June.

To Kill A Mockingbird: This is a classic that I have been dying to read. Love this cover edition too.

The Collector: Everyone seems to have read this. I need to read this.

So that’s me, what about you? Which books do you really need to read by the end of 2014?

39 Responses to Discussing Through Midnight (20): Books I Really Need To Read In 2014

  1. That’s an awesome list! Anna and The French Kiss is one of my favorite contemporaries and it’s super cute. Legend is also a great dystopian, and although I haven’t read the entire series, I’ve heard the way everything concludes for it is amazing.

By the end of 2014, I want to read the entire Sweet Evil series by Wendy Higgins, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, and The Program by Suzanne Young. I’ve heard great things about all of them! 🙂

Hmm… I’ve only read Iron King, but I have Sanctum… maybe we should do a buddy read? :3

Just last night I’ve finished reading Fractured, the second book by Sarah Fine and it was pretty good.

You have to read Anna and the French Kiss! It’s amazing. I liked the sequel even more.

I’ve read Legend and it was so-so for me. But I still had to get the other two books. Need to read them by the end of this year.

You haven’t read The Iron King or Legend or Anna and the French Kiss? You gotta fix that asap haha.

Not that I’m much better. So many books I haven’t read that I really need to. Gone Girl, Steelheart, The Dream Thieves….

  5. I’ve read Anna and the French Kiss, it was a great chillaxed read.
I really need to get round to The Iron King, I received that for Christmas, and I’ve been considering Legend for a few months and still haven’t bought it, so that’s definitely up on the list to consider.
Great collection of books, I hope you get to read them all 🙂

Although I liked the Blood of Eden series more, the Iron Fey series had a really interesting plot with two hot guys. It’s a must read, Melanie! 😀 Anna and the French Kiss was adorable! Fluff everywhereeee. Also, Legend–fantastic trilogy! I also recently read The Collector and it was an okay read, but I hope you enjoy it better than I did. 🙂

oh yes you really need to read Julie Kagawa, I love her books so much!

  8. The only book on your list I’ve already read is The Iron King. I absolutely adore Julie Kagawa, her books are so great!

I own Anna and the French Kiss, and Legend, too, so one day, I’ll hopefully actually sit down and read them. Happy reading, and happy Friday, Melanie 🙂

READ THE IRON FEY MEL!! xD If you do it for anything, do it for Puck!! Goodness me, I love that boy so much. I love him to BITS. I probably love him only second behind Astley from Need andand AAAAAH. I hope you get round to reading these novels soon 🙂 (especially because then you’ll know the beautiful, greatness, hilarious nature of Puck!! HEEHEE.

  10. I haven’t read Legend either nor Iron King, so we’re on the same boat on that one. There are so many books on my TBR that needs attending to. So many books to read!

I haven’t read the Collector yet either; I have read Anna and the French Kiss and quite enjoyed it! I seem to remember that the guy in it had a Manchester accent which the author suggested was very sexy, and I sat there thinking um no…. Lol. 🙂

I need to read Legend and The Iron King this year too. As well as Defiance and a bunch of other books I didn’t get to last year. We should read The Iron King together!

I just need to look at my pile on my desk. My, my when did I get so lazy. Anyhow I truly must read Sanctum everyone love it! I have no idea how’s that possible. I hope you’ll enjoy Ana, but I’m sure you’ll. It’s truly a wonderful story and Nevernever is something you should visit too. I’m with you when it comes to Legend too, another series I must start. So many! Good luck Mel! I’m sure you’ll get to read these 🙂

  16. Annie says:

I’ve only read Anna and the French Kiss on your list but I can say that every single squeal for this book is well deserved. I really loved it and surprisingly (because I had not expected it to be anything other than a fluffy, fun book), it had quite a bit of substance to it too.

To Kill A Mockingbird is definitely on my list of books I need to read. I’ve been wanting to read it for ages but just haven’t gotten to it. I will read it this year though! I’m determined to cross it off my list!

  17. Omg I read To Kill a Mockingbird this year with that exact same color! Everyone seems to love it but it was one of those books that took too long to get to the actual substance, even though I still enjoyed it. Idk reading books in class always just kills the glamour in general, so maybe that’s it. But a big fat YES to Legend, Anna, and The Iron King. Those books are so perfect and Anna is my favorite contemporary of all time I swear I make a point to reread it every year and I usually reread i twice in one sitting during those moments. (I was actually just thinking or rereading it lol) I really do hope you read these books soon!! Also Aneeqah will flip when she sees this because she’s been telling me since forever to read Prodigy after Legend lol 😉

hey Mel! I have to agree with you about The Iron Fey series! It’s really good 🙂 I started it (and ended up finishing it too!) in 2013.
For this coming year I want to finish a lot of series, like Lunar Chronicles, and start some series I’ve been meaning to read, like The Mortal Instruments, Vampire Academy, and read some classics too… 😉

Cheers to a new year full of new reads!!

  20. Ooh yeah! The Iron King series is definitely one that I’ve been putting off. I only started reading YA this year, so I have a bunch of things I still need to read. (And I haven’t read Mockingjay, but that’s by choice. LOL)

I haven’t read anything by Laini Taylor that’s been sitting on my sad little, dusty, TBR shelf. I also haven’t read Unravel Me, so that’s another thing.

I am sure it makes me a horrible person but I really hope you hate the Iron King. The series killed a small part of me but most people adore it .-. I get lonely 😛
BUT you ABSOLUTELY need to read Sanctum, Anna and the French Kiss and Legend. All of them were wonderful. Sanctum has Malachi. Anna has Etienne and Legend has awesomeness and Day. 😛
I also need to read The Collector, I’ve been meaning to forever but ummm…. I cannot seem to find the time 😛 I just hope that another year doesn’t pass by without me not reading any of the books I’ve been putting off reading for a while.

I hope you get all the reading you’ve been putting off done this year! 😀
Cheers to a New Year, Mel! 😀

I was reading this and I was like WUT but I totally understand you! But I must say I hope to like it since I have been wanting to read it for AGES

  22. Yes to Sanctum. I think you’re going to love the world in that one, Melanie although the main character could be a bit frustrating at times.
I’m honestly not sure how you would feel about the Collector and from your reviews, I’ve grown to know your tastes a bit, so I think you actually might not like it as much. I hope I’m wrong though.
I hope you do end up enjoying all these books, Mel!

I totally LOVE Julie Kagawa’s books (ALL of them!), I hope you enjoy The Iron King! Even if you’re not gung ho about it, it gets even better as the series progresses!

  24. The Iron fey series is amazing, one of the best faery series out there, in my opinion. I’ve had Legend sitting on my shelf for a year, so I should really start reading it, considering I was dying to read it when I got it. I would also like to read The Collector.
This year, I just want to try and get the massive pile of books I own actually read.

The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs
and I’m looking for something completely unique.
