discussing through midnight

This meme was created for YA Midnight Reads as a discussion post of all things bookish.

I’m going to try and keep this really quick and simple.

You may have noticed that I have not been posting as much since I came back from after my hiatus. This isΒ not because I am lazy, or just don’t feel like blogging anymore. I love blogging. However I went on holidays overseas yesterday and well, I need an actual holiday. So posts will not be as consistent until I get back to Australia next year.

Moreover, the current place I am in has crappy wi-fi. Therefore, some days I will struggle to get my laptop up and working for a posts. Another problem I am experiencing is that the country* I am does not let me use Twitter. MAJOR SUCKAGE. I live on there, talk to bloggy friends and now I am not even able to get on Twitter. I did find a website that lets me hack in and use it but it’s really slow and it’s awful glitchy. So yeah. Absense of me on Twitter, yay. *sarcasm* However my greatest problem is this: I can’t seem to view any blogs that are hosted by **Even if you have a domain name, I can’t get onto it. So, when I do my commenting rounds, I will not be able to visit your blog. PLEASE DON’T TAKE OFFENSE. I will most defintely go on a commenting spree on your blogs when I get back to Australia. I feel really bad but there is nothing I can do about it. πŸ™ I am really sorry.

* Someone keeps emailing me creepy emails and I swear I have a stalker so if you wanna know where I am holidaying, see twitter for that. (I have also made my twitter account private too).

** Yes, my co-blog is a blog. I will still be posting there. But I personally will not be able to log on so Blythe will help me post reviews there.

Other than that, I’ve made this a discussion post because I would love to hear what you guys think about the balance between real life and blogging. Do you ever feel stressed? When do you feel it’s time to back down and take a breath?

  1. As of late I think I’ve definitely been feeling a lot more stressed about blogging. I wasn’t feeling well earlier in the week so I had scheduled some pre-written reviews to go up, but for half of the week I was there stressing about not being able to comment back on other blogs. Anyway Mel, I hope you take your well deserved holiday and enjoy it.

That stalker sounds really scary =/

Stalker keeps making references to my blog and my exact whereabouts. Def going to not mention much and hope he she goes away.

Don’t stress! I try to tell the same to myself but it just doesn’t really process to my brain unless someone else says it. Thanks Jeann!

  2. Jasprit says:

Hey no worrries Melanie! Just make sure that you totally have fun, you totally deserve this break. And not having twitter totally sucks! I hope that you find some way around it! πŸ™‚

I have, but it’s so glitchy and horrible to use so I don’t think I can πŸ™ I miss reading you and Rach’s posts! Gonna have to stalk yous on Goodreads for these weeks

  3. Country without Twitter is clue enough! I do hope you enjoy your time there, where I imagine is super cold! Anyway, don’t worry about us, enjoy your holidays!

Aw,I hope everything works out! Sounds like it could be a real vacation then-no pressure to post/comment at all because well, you can’t. So weird about the blogspot and Twitter thing. Smart thing to keep you real life secret, those emails sound creepy!

Yeah, they are. Like they found out what suburb I live in a stuff. Kinda freaked. The blogspot and Twitter thing is happening because they’re based in the US or something. FB too.

  6. Henrietta says:

    Enjoy your vacay time πŸ™‚

Maybe I’m weird but taking an online break often helps my mind to calm down and I actually sleep better when I’m not using my computer and phone as much.

  7. I hope you’re having a good holiday, Melanie! πŸ˜€

I feel stressed quite often and always feel like I don’t have enough time to do anything. It really gets me down sometimes and then I panic but I’m getting better, I think. I’m just getting back into blogging again after a month or two of erratic posting, so hopefully I’ll learn to relax a bit more.

    Great post! <33

That’s awful about the dodgy emails. I hope you can get that person blocked somehow. Meanwhile, enjoy your vacay and don’t worry so much about posting. Everyone will still be here, waiting to welcome you back, and excited to read your new posts. Relax. Enjoy. Don’t stress out. πŸ˜‰

  10. Giselle says:

S’ok we still love you! πŸ˜‰ And anyways people generally aren’t blogging/visiting blogs as much during the holidays. Weird about not being able to visit blogspot sites. And the creepy stalker O_O You have a lot going on! haha. Hope that’s just random spam, though. The most I can I try to schedule my posts a week in advance and do them all on one day so that I don’t even have to blog for the next 5-6 days. I find it helps and I like it better than doing up each post the day before.

Hmm yes, that does sound smart only if I had that large of an attention span! I can’t do things for more than 2 hours straight, even if it’s something I love to do. Twitter and blogspot (and FB) and other sites aren’t working probably because they are based in the US and the country I am in blocks them. ANNOYING

  11. Oh noes!! That really sucks πŸ™
I know the stress for sure! There’s some days when I get fed up with constantly worrying about having content, and sometimes it IS overwhelming!

Enjoy your holiday and I will miss your cute avi on my posts πŸ™ Boo for crappy wifi but in a way I to be good for you to get a proper holiday!
Creepy stalker *shudders* and no twitter!? I’d freak without twitter lol

Anyway have fun boo and can’t wait to hear all about your trip!
Btw YES I get stressed by blogging…and sometimes more than others. Although for the holidays I’m going to be reading more than blogging, so I am happy about that…maybe less posts per week, like not daily but still 4x a week. That little bit helps me a lot sometimes! ^_^

    A stalker?! That’s creepy…. :/
Don’t worry about not being able to comment- you’re on holiday anyway, I’m pretty sure most people wouldn’t expect you to spend a lot of time commenting. You should be having fun holidaying πŸ˜€

To be honest, I don’t really get too stressed about blogging, but that’s because I only post when I want to. If that means there’s a week where we get no posts up, I don’t really mind. Blogging is a hobby, and I never want it to reach a point where it becomes a stressor in my life πŸ™‚

    • Melanie says:

Yeah, I treat blogging as a hobby but sometimes I just feel like I must post every day. It sucks, I’ll get over it soon hopefully. Going to miss reading your posts–commentluv is killing me because now I want to read about why you give out so many 5 star ratings (maybe because you read heaps of amazing books? HEH)

  14. Shelly says:

Oh the twitter and blogger mishap sounds tricky but at least you’ll get some relaxing time! I don’t really tend to get stressed when blogging because I remind myself that it’s a hobby and I think that’s the trick to staying stress-free. As long as you remember that you’re not really committed to anything, you’ll be fine!

Oh man that sucks! But don’t worry we will be here when you get back, although I’ll miss your cute twilight sparkle avi below my posts πŸ˜‰
Have fun on your holiday! I’ll look out for your tweets and make sure you don’t stress to much about less posts! I’ll be posting less this holiday bc I want to read more and I have a ton of review books to finish before Jan. 😐 I found if I post 3-4 times a week my stress goes down exponentially and I have way more time to read too, which if I don’t I feel like I blog more than read sometimes..

Xoxo have a great time dearie!

What happened to my comment? Ahhhh I lost it!?

πŸ™ boo! Anyway I just said enjoy your holiday I’ll miss seeing your comments but we will be here when you return and I hope u have fun don’t stress! I stress sometimes, but if I post only 3x a week sometimes, like now during the holiday…ok, maybe 4 but it lowers my stress levels and I can read way more!
I get stressed when I find myself blogging more than reading..that makes me sad and since I have so many review books to finish by 2014 I am gonna be nose to the grindstone these next few months!

    Have a good holiday!

STALKER?! EEP so creepyyyy >< It's not me right? I know we've been having a few back-and-forths via email so… *nervous laughter* Anyway, it does really suck that you can't get onto blogspot blogs πŸ™ Good thing I transferred over to WordPress! We must have some amazinggg telepathy powers πŸ˜‰ I know how it feels though; I think I need an actual holiday; I still love blogging though! But to be able to kick back and relax… Now that's the life! But while you're gone, don't worry, we STILL LOVE YOU DARLING <333
Have fun, kick back and relax, and just have a much-needed break! We'll definitely be here when you come back πŸ˜‰ So just have lots of fun for us, okay Mel? <33

  20. That’s crazy you can’t get onto certain sites! Ah well, maybe this is just the best time to take a real break and recharge. I think real life gets in the way during certain times and it’s important not to stress too much about blogging. I’m currently not blogging as much because I’m nearing the end of my semester at school, so with that and work, it’s hard to do a lot of “blog stuff” online.

A stalker! Beware! And a loss in Wi-Fi, I feel you there. Been there, done that. Hope you get better hot spots somewhere. I don’t blog but I would definitely miss reading those who do if I didn’t have a wi-fi connection. I did break my charger to my laptop and I’m crying without it.

  22. Kate Bond says:

I had a busy spell at work followed by a death in the family last month, and it was really hard for me to get ANY reviews done in that time because of it, let alone read and comment on my friends’ blogs. And I felt so crazy guilty.

I wonder if it will be eas1er or more difficult to get back into the swing of things in January, post-holiday break. I’m going to try to bank some reviews so I won’t have to stress about it, at least.
