midnight madness newsletter
This meme was created for YA Midnight Reads to showcase upcoming posts and hauls from over the past week.
HELLO EARTHLINGS! I really am not dead. I feel like I’m dead though, a living dead person that is being really really anti-social lately. On Twitter, school even on my blog. You may have realised that I didn’t post a Midnight Madness last week because I simply was too lazy and unmotivated. What’s even scarier is that I haven’t been reading much. *gasps*  Nothing has been really grabbing my attention. Sure, I read a fabulous book, All Our Yesterdays but nothing from thereof could please me. Even Stormdancer was like a 3.5 star read. So yeah, sorry for lack of review posts of the late.
And an update on my eARC ban: It’s been 5 – 6 weeks! WHOO! No requesting until I get my Goodreads TBR under 400 books.
Just Finished Reading…

About a 3.5 star read. I won’t have a review up but I am reading Kinslayer really soon! There was a slow start and lots of difficult terminology as well as my lack of patience with this novel. The long descriptions weren’t a huge help either.

Book of the Week:

This book is currently my heart and soul. That ending and those characters have burned a whole in my heart. I loved it so much, an international giveaway is on it’s way in less than a fortnight!

– Review of Teaser Tuesday (20)

– Review of The Cinderella Moment

– Review of Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson (@ Finding Bliss in Books)

Unspoken: It was out of impulse.

Between Shades of Grey: I get this confused with Fifty Shades of grep, the titles I mean. But yeah, I am about to read Out of the Easy so I decided to get her other book as well.

Girl Defective: My aussie friends have given this positve reviews- me is curious.

The Boyfriend App: I need something cute in my life these days. To lighten the mood.

Spirit Bound: I have Blood Promise up next so I was thinking to read this one right after to finish this series faster. trust me when I say that it’s seriously bothering me.

On the Jellicoe Road: I love tear jerkers.

I look forward to your thoughts on Girl Defective and Between Shades of Grey- they look fabulous.

And I got my copy of All our Yesterdays the other day, thanks to your review.

Thanks for sharing and great haul! <33

  2. Rebecca Hipworth says:

All Our Yesterdays sounds absolutely amazing, every review I read makes me want the book even more.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who wasn’t over-keen on Stormdancer, it’s a good book, just not for me.

Ooh, Poison Princess is really good. Give it a go, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. 🙂

  3. Jasprit says:

Melanie I’ve been having the same problems too lately, I usually come across one book which blows me away and then a lots of meh books. I hope this will change for us both soon. I’m so happy to see that you got a copy of Jellicoe Road, I loved that book, keep some tissues at the ready! I also need to read Unspoken and Between Shades of Gray soon too. Happy reading! 🙂

  5. I’m looking forward to All Our Yesterdays. I couldn’t really get into Stormdancer so I ended up giving it away. I think that high fantasy just isn’t my thing. I have a hard time with it a lot of the time. Not that I haven’t enjoyed some. I have felt like a bad blogger lately. I haven’t been commenting much and I have gotten so behind on reading. My pup is seriously taking up so much of my time.

  6. I gave up on Stormdancer. The writing felt unnecessarily dense to me, and I really didn’t have the patience to see it through to the end. I’m glad you mostly enjoyed it though. And OMG. Jellicoe Road! I love that book so much. Unspoken is quite a bit of fun too! Enjoy your new books. 🙂

Awww you’re not alone Melanie! 🙁 I’m kinda lazy to update my blog too 🙁 Luckily I still can force myself to post…

I enjoyed The Boyfriend App, it was indeed a light and cute contemporary 😉 I have been wanting to read Stormdancer and All Our Yesterday — I hope I’ll enjoy them when I read them some day! Have a great week! :33

  8. don’t worry, once my blog started acting up I found it difficult to get back into the swing of blogging too. I think it’s normal to have break now and then.

  9. I’ve been lazy too this week! Blogging and commenting and reading has just taken so much work! Blarrgghhh… It’s actually taken me, like, four hours to write this comment.

So I’m going book shopping tomorrow and I think I’m going to buy All Our Yesterdays because it looks so good and the cover is so gorgeous *stares*

Also, I totally want to steal your copy of The Boyfriend App. I really want to read it. Happy reading!

  10. I’ve heard so many amazing things about All Our Yesterday and I’m so excited to read it! I love when books are really memorable. I’m also curious to see what you think of Jellicoe Road. Enjoy your books 🙂

  11. Sarah J says:

I hope you enjoy Blood Promise and Spirit Bound! I love the VA series, it’s on of my favorite ever! I just finished Jellicoe Road and I really enjoyed it, but I read The Piper’s Son after and it was sooooooo much better! I do the same thing with Between Shades of Grey! Good to know I’m not the only one that thinks that sometimes, but it is a truly beautiful book and I hope you enjoy it. I also hope you feel better and start reading more again! I know how those slumps are and they suck!:)

  12. Ahh sorry you’re not really loving any of the books you’ve been reading recently, but I definitely know what you mean when you say All Our Yesterdays is your heart and soul! I’m sorry you’re in a reading slump, I think everybody’s kind of been getting a case of it D: But woot on the eARC ban congrats! I probably would never last >.<

Fantastic post, Melanie! Can't wait to see those reviews <33

Omg, I’m completely with you. Recently there just haven’t been any stand-out YA books that grasp my attention that I completely love. I miss that feeling D: I have Stormdancer on my bookshelf, but I can’t really bring myself to read it. 😛 It just doesn’t sound like my type of thing, but maybe I’ll give it a go, despite it’s slow start. >.< All Our Yesterdays sounds so good!! I'm so adding it to the top of my TBR list. 😀 Poison Princess is really amazing. I loved it, in spite of the suggestive cover and plot haha. Thanks for sharing, Mel! Hope next week is better for you. <3 x

  14. Sorry that none of the books you’re reading are really grabbing your attention. I know it happens sometimes and it always sucks, but just push through…or even take a mini “reading break.” hope you find another awesome read soon!

I really need to read Anna and Roger’s Epic Detour. I’ve owned it for awhile now; I should bring it on vacation!
